MTG Arena’s September reset meets Reality Fracture preview week

The scheduled reset changes the Arena rules reference

Wizards of the Coast’s September 11 State of the Formats announcement scheduled more than 200 rebalanced tabletop cards to return to their printed versions on MTG Arena on September 22. This is coverage of that scheduled effective date, not a new announcement or an independent test of every change in the client.

Check the format before rebuilding

The announced Historic bans are Galvanic Discharge; Guide of Souls; Nadu, Winged Wisdom; Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord; and The One Ring. Brawl adds Nadu. The announcement lists no corresponding changes for Timeless or Competitive Brawl. It also schedules Alchemy’s retirement for the early-2027 Standard rotation—not September 22—and says digital-only Alchemy cards will remain available in other named Arena formats.

Three dates that should not be confused

Wizards’ September 21 weekly update places the Reality Fracture early-access broadcast event on September 23, the Arena release on September 29 and the tabletop release on October 2. The early-access event features streamers and competitive players on YouTube and Twitch; it is not the public release of physical boosters. The update also links the complete card gallery and Commander decklists.

Community discussion is not a paper-card price signal

The r/magicTCG discussion of the formats announcement includes disagreement about keeping digital-only cards in Arena. That is community opinion, not evidence of a future tournament winner or a change in physical-card prices.

BAO analysis: separate rules, access and collecting

Before spending wildcards, check your intended queue and the client’s current legality display. Before buying a physical single, check its tabletop format separately: an Arena Historic ban is not itself a Commander or Modern ban.

For collectors watching early-access streams, record the exact card name, product and treatment that interests you, then compare it with the official gallery. A memorable digital play sequence does not establish the scarcity, pull rate or resale value of its physical counterpart. Keep those questions separate until the relevant product evidence and completed sales exist.
